The Heart of a Champion
The Gros Islet Veterans Team hails from the town of Gros Islet and boasts a team of young veterans and much more experienced players. The team style of play is defined by having a compact solid defense while exhibiting a fast pace energetic attacking play. Although there was a notable absentee in longtime serving coach and captain – Francis “Baba” Lastic (on national coaching duties) the team was led by new coach Miran Joseph and captain Sherman Sylvester to capture the 2022 Saint Lucia International Masters Football Invitational Tournament. The team also boasts ex-national players in Goalkeeper Giovanni “Rufai” Deterville, Rafferty Ratty Noelien and Kenwen “Dings” Mc Phee. Other notable contributors were the fast pace energetic reigning tournament finals MVP Troy Serieux, Ian Thomas and the solid and reliable defender Philip “Markee” Barnard. The Gros Islet Veterans continue to add fresh faces into the veteran football arena each year by tapping on ex-senior representative players from the town of Gros Islet who are interested and continue to exhibit an acceptable level of discipline. Gros Islet Veterans hope to defend its title as the champions of the prestigious Saint Lucia International Masters Football Invitational to be held this May 2023 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium.
